Save the poor guy in the trap in first act of the game. Due to a goblin attack on a tavern in Waukeen Refuge, a fire broke out: most people died, but there were still those who could be saved. You must hurry to help the survivors.
One of the victims is Benrin: the poor fellow was crushed by wooden beams that he cannot move on his own. Enter the building engulfed in flames, find the man and rescue him from the trap. In the guide we will tell you where the Waukeen Shelter is, how to start the side quest and get Benrin's dowry.
How to start the mission Save a Poor Man in a Trap in BG3
To start the quest “Save the Poor Man in the Trap”, you need to get to the location Waukeen Shelter in Baldur's Gate 3. She is on northeast from the Mountain - it will be difficult not to notice the burning houses. A squad of Firefists are huddled at the main entrance, claiming that Ulder Ravengard is inside. You can help them break down the door by ing a strength check [KS - 10], but besides access to the tavern, this will not give anything: duke no inside. But there are others who need saving.
A cry for help will be heard on the second floor of the northern building. The unfortunate man fell under the rubble, so he cannot get out of the burning building on his own. Benrin is located in one of the rooms, but you can’t just go in there: when you try to open the door, an explosion will occur and the fire will spread even faster. Better cut your way through second entrance, but this still will not protect you from the shock wave and can throw you to the first floor. There is another way to get inside - from the outside of the house, in the age between the western building, however, the situation there will be similar. The quest will start automatically when Benrin comes into view.
Walkthrough of the quest Save the Poor Man in the Trap in Baldur's Gate 3
It is necessary to find Benrin and rescue him from the fire trap, otherwise the man will die. Next, we will analyze in detail all the key actions and available choices.
How to save Benrin
The poor guy was crushed under the beams, so he needs to a strength test or investigation [KS - 10] to rescue him. If successful, a cutscene will start in which Benrin will ask how to get out of here. For his own safety, it is better to choose the answer option: "Here, follow me" to gain control of the character and make sure he gets there alive.
The NPC only has 5 HP, so be careful and don't step on the smoldering boards along the way. The fire can be partially extinguished by throwing a couple of water bottles or using a spell "Creation of Water".
There are two ways to get out of the fiery captivity: through the same tavern stairs or the western extension. The first path is safer because it does not require breaking down the second door (if you entered from the main entrance), which would be problematic due to the status of blindness in the smoke. In addition, the fire goes there slower than in Benrin's room and can be byed. The second road leads directly to the corpse of the unfortunate man’s wife, which allows you to skip part of the task with her search and a couple of dialogues.
Where to find Miri
As soon as Benrin is in the fresh air, he worries about the fate of his wife, Mirilet. If you didn't meet her body on the way, then head to second floor of a western house. The dead girl fits the description of a widower who has bad news to tell. While Benrin mourns his wife, he will mention the dowry, over which they quarreled shortly before the tragedy. You can ask him about this in more detail and go searching on your own, or use the spell “Conversation with the Dead" to Miri and ask your question.
How to find Miri's dowry
Miri's dowry in Baldur's Gate 3 is located in the barn, to the east of the stone arch. Inside, to the left of the door, you will see a stack untouched by the flames - examine it and an attention check to find a chest. You will find in it dowry ring and some gold.
Take the find to Benrin to complete the quest. You don’t have to give the ring away; you can choose the appropriate answer in the dialogue and keep the thing for yourself - merchants will give 115 gold for it when selling it. If you return the dowry to a widower, he will thank you verbally and will not give anything in return.
Saving Benrin does not affect the main plot of the game and is not a prerequisite for ing, but it better reveals the world of the game and makes you feel involved in the events taking place in it. You won't be able to find any valuable awards, but you can get some approval satellites, therefore, we advise you to act according to your own preferences and the character of the chosen hero.

For what reason are the cardinal directions described incorrectly in all the articles? On the com, W, as it should be, is west, and E (East) is east. But in each article, W is indicated as East. Is this due to illiteracy or the consonance of W and B (Вэ)? After all, the com on the minimap itself is made correctly.
It so happened that some of the articles had to be given to freelance writers, who worked poorly and no one stayed for long afterwards.
The editor tried to correct the main flaws, but apparently did not pay attention to the cardinal directions (she was not able to orient herself outside the game).
Just in case, key locations were also marked with coordinates on the map.
I left a comment there again on this topic. Please delete it. I just realized that this is a local "tradition". 🙂
By the way, in fact, in absolutely all articles the cardinal directions are named in mirror image. I deliberately ran through the most diverse ones - that's right. Apparently they were named in accordance with the letters, and then everyone got used to it. It just broke my pattern on a professional level. 🙂
Hello!
When we write articles of this format, where we focus on some in-game directions (right/left, north/south/west/east), sometimes we start not from the map itself, but from the character’s “angle” in the open world (and so on), roughly speaking.
Considering how exactly the general map in BG3 is structured, as well as how the mini-map behaves when the character rotates/moves (+ the camera itself), we could have ignored the fact that from the point of view of the emphasis on the map, our designations could have been slightly different.
This is what caused the difficulties, and most likely, this is what led to a semantic error, if you look at the situation in general.
Will be more careful with this kind of thing in future!
Thank you for bringing this to our attention~.
