Briefly about the events of previous seasons of the anime
In the title's universe, the world is divided into two dimensions: Assiah, where humans live, and Gehenna, where demons live. Travel between the two is nearly impossible, so Satan, the ruler of Gehenna, decides to use his son, Rin, born from a human woman, as a weapon.
Rin Okumura lived a peaceful life with his adoptive father Shiro Fujimoto and twin brother Yukio. Soon, the protagonist learns of his true origins, witnesses Shiro's sacrifice and death, and awakens demonic powers.
Contrary to his father's plans, Okumura intends to become an exorcist and defeat Satan. For this purpose, the young man enters the True Cross Academy, where he makes friends and allies, faces enemies, develops his own abilities, and gets caught up in a whirlwind of incredible events.
The last fully adapted story arc was the "Beyond the Snow" arc, which focused on the story of Shura Kirigakure. As a descendant of Tatsuko Kirigakure, who made a pact with the demon Hydra, Shura looked like her predecessor and was supposed to die at age thirty. Unable to resist this curse, she decided not to bear a child and ensure that the Kirigakure line would end with her.
Yukio and Rin are sent to help the girl by Mephisto Pheles and during the operation they encounter Hydra. The guys protect Shura, and she, inspired by their actions, decides to live, move on and overcome the curse. Among other things, at the end of the arc, Yukio becomes an object of interest for both the Illuminati and the demons, each of whom wants to persuade him to their side.
The finale of the first chapter of the fourth season sees a series of shocking events and unexpected twists. Demons openly attack Assiah, and Yukio makes a series of moves that result in him being framed for the assassination attempt on Mephisto. These events force the brothers to go on the run, and hordes of demons from Gehenna infiltrate the human world due to Pheles's fatal mistake.
