Skryab in Baldur's Gate 3: how to find and tame a dog

Shkryab in Act 1, a snow-white dog that helps you explore the world and fight. With Shkryab, life in the camp becomes livelier, and his friendship with the little bear is a condition for unlocking the achievement.

In the guide we will tell you where to find and how to tame Shkryab in BG3, how to play with him and summon him to explore the world. We will also pay attention to frequent questions: what happens if a pet falls in battle, is it possible to kill it forever, what to do if the dog disappears from the camp and how to make friends with it bear cub.

Where to find Skryab in Baldur's Gate 3

Head to the forest located near the Extinct Village. Not far from the entrance to the bear's cave you will see a corpse, and next to it - a white dog that does not leave a single step.

How to interact with Skryab

Communication with all tailed and feathered animals in the game has 2 forms:

  1. A full conversation between an animal and a person is possible if the character drank a potion talking to animals or cast a spell of the same name on himself.
  2. Communicate with gestures and emotions, just like in real life.

When trying to tame Shkryab using the first method, no problems should arise due to the simplicity of the checks; in the second case, rolling the dice may be more difficult.

How to tame Shkryab

If you drank the potion "Talk to Animals", then the dialogue with Shkryab consists of one karmic check:

  • Ask “What happened here?”Shkryab
  • Next, choose one of three tests: attention, intimidation or persuasion [KS - 10, 10, 10].
  • If you prefer to inspect the collar, then call Shkryab by name, tell the dog that his friend is unlikely to wake up, and invite the pet to the camp, offering to find the right place by smell. This will be the end of the conversation.

Without the skill of talking with animals, the logic and essence of communication will not change much:

  • Try petting the poor thing first.
  • Choose from three tests to bring a grieving pet back to its senses: training, attention, or intimidation [KS - always 10]. Any of the listed options will not harm the dog and will lead to the desired development of the dialogue.
  • After winning the karmic die roll, pet the poor fellow.
  • Call the dog to the camp site. He will whine, showing his reluctance to leave his owner.
  • The final action, “Reach out your hand so that the dog re the smell and can follow you to the camp,” is what is required for Skryab to eventually catch up with the travelers later.

Having visited the camp site after some time, but not immediately, you will see Shkryab walking around its territory. Approach the dog, express your condolences for the loss of a friend, or pet it. For now, your pet cannot be summoned to explore the world together, but this will change soon.

How to play with Skryab in the camp

A game of "Fetch!" At first, you can only pet your new comrade. At a certain moment, after a couple of strokes and, most likely, after the attack Lae’zel to the main character in the camp, the dog will bring the ball. a strength check [CS - 15], sleight of hand [KS - 10] or training [KS - 15] to remove the toy from its mouth. Throw the resulting Skryab ball using the throwing command (by default on PC - X button) in any direction: the dog will happily run after it to return it.

Game of "Fetch!" Unlocks the "Give and Bring" achievement.

How to summon Shkryab

After receiving the ball, the hero will be added to the list of skills Summoning Shkryab in the form of a familiar. While in the open world, select an ability and cast it. Shkryab helps to search for treasures and hidden things, but does not have extraordinary vitality and is a weak fighter.

What happens if Shkryab died

Shkryab can participate in exploring locations and in battles, but he has only 5 HP and a weak attack, so he is an easy prey for enemies. Fortunately, a friend summoned as a familiar cannot die, since in reality he is always in the camp, and only his projection travels around the map. If the pet is defeated, the familiar will disappear, which will not affect the real Skryab in the camp. You can summon as many times as you like: the ability refreshes after a short rest.

At the same time, the dog Shkryab can die forever, if you attack him in the camp or summon a hostile monster there. What will happen in this scenario:

  • Some of the squad (Volo) will quickly come running to kill the traitor and protect Shkryab, including from the main character.
  • If a pet is killed, it cannot be resurrected - even Withered won't be able to get the dog back.
Note: killing Shkryab will turn him into a paladin oathbreaker.

What to do if Shkryab disappeared from the camp

The situation in which Shkryab simply disappears from the camp is a bug: the good boy easily gets stuck in some models, so he stops appearing at the base. You can fix the problem using the following methods:

  • Throw a ball in the parking area: a lost friend may be teleported back.
  • Summon a Skryab familiar in any location, which will force him to teleport from an unspecified location on the map where he is stuck. After this, it should load correctly in parking lots.
  • Skryab very often gets stuck in a training dummy model located in a variation of the Whispering Abyss camp - a cave system under the Extinct Village. Go down into the caves under the village through the well, go into the camp and check the training dummy at the cliff. If the pet stands quietly nearby, as if stuck, then throw the ball or teleport it from there with a spell.

These are all known methods that will save a dog from a trap.

How to pet Shkryab and Medvesych at the same time

Shkryab and Medvesych Medvesych and Shkryab will easily become friends if you invite them both to the campsite. Save the baby bear cub from the clutches of goblins and invite him to the base. Having fulfilled the conditions, go to bed and will be awakened by an animal squeal in the middle of the night.

To further receive the achievement, the character must not be under the influence of the “Talk to Animals” spell or potion.

Next, follow these steps:

  • Hurry to the sound.
  • Call the animals.
  • Select training [KS - 5] or ask Shkryab if everything is okay;
  • It turns out that the younger bear had a nightmare, and his snow-white comrade came to him. Choose “Pet Skryab” and “Pet the bear.”

Both pets will play together and the player will receive the achievement “Now I’ll be twice as happy!”.
