Hello tankers! With you Wotpack and the first tank from the New Year's boxes (already 100% confirmed) American heavy tank level 8 M-IV-Y in World of Tanks. This is a technique for a new Object 703 option 2.
M-IV-Y has unique mechanics "reserve caterpillar", so it's unstoppable, hitting the track only slows it down. This is already the 7th level 8 US heavyweight, so it is with the previous American TTs that we will compare it using the TTX as an example.
TTX M-IV-Y
Firepower
The M-IV-Y has a 105 mm gun with a one-time damage of 360 HP, which is quite good for level 8. Armor penetration with a base armor-piercing projectile of 220 mm, and with a special sub-caliber of 247 mm, is not the ultimate dream, but quite normal indicators. The gun is reduced in 2,4 seconds, which is the norm for this caliber, but the accuracy fails - only 0,38 (the worst indicator among US TTs).
The turret traverse speed is good at 36,5°, so the tank can quickly react to the appearance of the enemy and will not allow itself to be swirled. In addition, he has comfortable vertical guidance angles of +10…-20°, so he can confidently deal damage when playing from the terrain. Reloading the gun takes 10,83 seconds, which allows you to fire 5,54 shots per minute with a potential damage of 1994 units, which is not so much for a level 8.
Vitality
Safety margin is standard 1500 units. The nominal frontal armor of the hull is 178 mm, taking into the adjustment of the VLD, it can repel shells of about 250-270 mm. Not without vulnerable zones: a strip of armor at the junction of VLD and NLD about 230 mm. NLDs are quite noticeable in size, it will be difficult to miss and, in principle, they make their way through any single-level tank.
The frontal view of the turret looks impressive - cast and practically impenetrable with 279 mm of nominal armor. The reduction in the center of the tower is about 300 mm, and the farther to the side, the more (from 370 to 700+), so it doesn’t even make sense to shoot there. However, not everything is so rosy:
- the tower makes its way easily under the gun, there is 210 mm of armor;
- a large "bucket" ala commander's turret, which will not be difficult to target, which negates the steep armor of the tower. The size of the combo box is the same as M54 Renegade.
Mobility and intelligence
M-IV-Y boasts good mobility, one of the best among classmates. With a tank mass of 47 tons, the specific power is 18,09 hp / t, which allows you to accelerate to 45 km / h. The chassis turning speed is 36,51°, so maneuverability is also in order. The viewing radius is unremarkable 380 meters and it will no longer be possible to disperse it to the maximum value (without optics or ventilation). Camouflage is one of the worst among TT 8.
Advantages and disadvantages
Let's summarize the tactical and technical characteristics of the M-IV-Y, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses.
Advantages:
- the presence of the mechanics of the "reserve caterpillar";
- projectile speed;
- comfortable UVN;
- strong tower;
- good dynamics;
- excellent maneuverability as for a TT.
Disadvantages:
- poor accuracy;
- mediocre hull armor;
- large commander's cupola;
- poor disguise (although for TT this is far from the main indicator).

How to play M-IV-Y
The developers planned this car as a breakthrough tank, endowing it with the mechanics of a "reserve caterpillar" so that the tank could not be stopped. Of course, they won’t stop him, but given the mediocre armor of the hull, they can simply destroy him before he makes a “breakthrough”. Therefore, you should play carefully, using the main advantage of the M-IV-Y armor - a strong tower. Try to choose a direction so that you can play from the terrain, realizing your strengths.
At the bottom of the list or in urban environments, it is better to play as a fire tank, hiding the hull behind more armored allies. With the turbocharger installed, the M-IV-Y is quite capable of changing flanks or returning to defend the base, so be sure to keep an eye on the situation in the battle on the mini-map.
Results: is it worth buying M-IV-Y in World of Tanks
The new M-IV-Y turned out to be interesting, although some have comments about the appearance of the vehicle. The tank is never imba, but rather a strong average. If you already have in the Garage M54 Renegade, then you don't need M-IV-Y. In this case, he simply has nothing to offer (except for a spare track), and in this way the Renegade is played much more pleasantly and efficiently in of performance characteristics.
