Monk in Path of Exile 2 — a melee class that has mastered martial arts to perfection and uses all kinds of magic in battles. The monk is often played off of spells related to lightning and shock, and also uses frost and ice. The class is well suited for destroying crowds of enemies in the heat of battle: opponents will not be able to come close if they are frozen and shocked.
In this guide, we will examine in detail the most effective Monk builds in PoE 2, touch on the paths of leveling the Elemental Summoner and the branch of the Servant of Chayula. We will consider skills, ive abilities, select skill stones and provide a list of informative video guides.
The article will gradually be supplemented with new Monk builds that we can select. If you plan to experiment with the gameplay, bookmark the articleto be the first to try out new builds.
PoE 2 Monk Builds for Leveling
Next, we'll look at the first builds for the Monk: the starting one and one for each specialization, which will work at low levels.
Monk Starter Build for the Beginning of the Game
Once you start the game and choose the Monk as your starting class, you will have to complete the first two chapters for this character, after which it will become available The Test of Sehem. At the same time, it will be possible to complete the Ascension, transferring the Monk to a completely different level. During the first two acts, you will have to get used to the hero's skills, master close combat and magic, and also decide on the further vector of development.
The starting build for the Monk should be chosen with the utmost seriousness in order to quickly clear the story content of the first acts and not linger in one place.
Equipment
To create a good build, you first need to figure out what equipment the hero needs and what items are suitable for the Monk. Class, as well as Witch, is somehow connected with magic. To open the necessary skills, the hero needs to upgrade Intelligence and Dexterity - these are its main parameters.
In equipment, pay attention to resistance to various elements, evasion, all sorts of parameters to increase damage. The table lists universal and optimal options for modifiers for the Monk's equipment:
Subject | Modifiers |
---|---|
|

Afterwards, you can improve your equipment with runes; if you don't have any slots yet, add them using astromancy spheres:
- Can take Rune of Rebirth for regeneration for destruction.
- Install Rune of Inspiration to gain mana for killing enemies and increase base mana regeneration.
- Rune of Reason Suitable if you are experiencing a severe shortage of mana, which can happen in the early stages of the game.
Skills and stones
The main skills for the Monk deal physical, electrical or frost damage. Most of them operate at close range, which allows the character to quickly deal with crowds of enemies. The Monk begins the game with the skill "Staff Strike" and the first magic skill "Thunderclaps".
In the Battle Staff branch, focus on skills that use lightning. Some of the skills are aimed at using frost or physical damage. The table shows the main set of skills and stones.
Skill | Stones |
---|---|
The main skill for damage is Tempest Flurry, reinforced Charged by Staff. The latter can be obtained by dodging with Lingering Illusion. Use Tempest Bell to further increase damage dealt to groups of enemies and bosses.
Flicker Strike It is used against groups of mobs and bosses, since the skill's damage is extremely high and it is difficult to replace it with anything else, especially in stalemate situations.
ive skills
First of all, it is worth pumping up to "Flow like water", and from it to "Flow State". These skills will increase agility and intelligence, allowing you to equip normal equipment, increase attack speed and cast spells. The state of flow will increase the speed of skills and mana regeneration.
The next key skill is "Stylish bend", it will increase the amount of armor destroyed by enemies under the influence of conditions. Additionally, the skill increases strength and physical damage.
Upgrade "Storm Splash" - the skill reduces enemies' resistance to cold and lightning. Along the way, you will be able to get bonuses to your stats.
Then take on "Inner strength"to get a bonus to critical damage and maximum energy charges. You can also pump up skills around for additional gain.
"Thirst for Power", which is located opposite the “Inner Strength”, will give an increase to the received energy charges, and also increase their maximum number.
Move to the edge of the ive skill tree to unlock "Power Over the Edge" — the skill will give you maximum energy charges. Leveling up a Monk requires increasing this parameter as often as possible, and you will also receive other useful buffs along the way.
From Storm Splash, go down to "Skills". This triangle will give a huge boost to the agility stat, which will be useful for both skills and equipment. Then open "Animal skin" - It will increase body armor evasion by 100%, closing another important requirement for the Monk.
Rotation
The Monk's playstyle is to increase damage in every way possible to quickly destroy bosses and enemies. Along the way, various skill combinations are used, mainly cold and lightning:
- Lure enemies towards you, dodge attacks to create an illusion and gain a charge.
- Strengthen your staff and use Tempest Flurry.
- Always use Storm Bell when fighting bosses to increase damage.
- When fighting crowds of enemies, alternate between frost and lightning to keep your enemies at a short distance and avoid taking damage if you can no longer dodge.
Elementalist Monk Builds for Leveling
The Elementalist combines a strong focus on two trees at once and can deviate towards either. The Elementalist's rise in PoE 2 includes parts of the Lightning Caller and Frost Monk builds, however the emphasis is on lightning to please the damager.
Developing along this path will allow you to use the already familiar lightning and frost skills. Talents will make the Monk even stronger, increasing the main parameters.
Skills and stones
Next, we will examine in detail the main skills that the Elemental Summoner build includes. In the table, you can find out about the stones:
Skill | Stones |
---|---|
Storm Wave — The primary skill that the Monk uses to destroy mobs and bosses. Although Upheaval reduces the damage of each Storm Wave, the increased number of charges ultimately increases the damage when hitting a single target. Add Heft as a gem to reduce the damage reduction.
Charged Staff, Elemental Expression, Orb of Storms will deal more damage from Storm Wave and critical hits, while Wind Dancer, Blasphemy, and Ghost Dance ensure survival Monk: The build uses Combat Frenzy to generate staff charges, along with Resonance in the ive skill tree.
ive skills
In the ive skill tree, start leveling up with "Mindfulness" to increase evasion and maximum energy shield, which will be useful for survivability and the beginning of the battle.
Open "AC" to increase the speed of mana regeneration if the enemy has recently been shocked. The skill buffs the strength of the shock applied, which is useful for all lightning skills.
Pay attention to the petal with "Multiple attacks". They will increase attack speed by default, and also give a boost if damage has been taken recently. In addition, there will be a buff to strength.
"Resonance" - one of the key ive skills of this build, the skill grants:
- Energy charges instead of rage charges.
- Fury charges instead of endurance charges.
- Stamina charges instead of energy charges.
Go to the right side and open "The Throat-Cutter" - it will increase the critical damage bonus, but will decrease the critical hit chance.
To the left of Dexterity, open "Falcon Technique" to increase attack speed by 1% for every 15 agility. So, by pumping the main stat, you can get a bonus.

Builds for Monk Servant Chayula during leveling

Skills and stones
The build for the Servant of Chayula uses unique skills that were not used in previous builds. From the table below you will find out the main skill pool and about the stones needed to strengthen the character:
Skill | Stones |
---|---|

Dark Effigy Required to apply debuffs to enemies and increase your own damage. The totem spams effects endlessly, allowing you to deal with enemies faster.
ive skills
In addition to the standard ive skills that Ascension of the Monk unlocks, there are a few more important cells to upgrade.
Return to the beginning of the path. From “Mindfulness” go down to the “roots” and open "To walk like fog"to increase your movespeed, gain intelligence, and increase your mana regeneration rate. It will be very useful later.
From the branch with "Alternating current" go up and go left. There are two key branches here:
- Inescapable horror and the cells in front of it - increase chaos damage, increase the duration of the skill effect.
- A powerful spell and the cells in front of it - increase the damage from spells several times, but slightly reduce the speed of their casting.
Control zone, located near the previous two branches, will allow you to expand the area of effect of curses and strengthen them. Additionally, it applies a small slowdown to enemies so that they do not corner the Monk.
"Limited Opportunities" will increase damage from attacks on shackled enemies and slow movement speed if the targets have debuffs of the corresponding type.
The optimal branch for dark forces is "Withering", which allows you to additionally exhaust targets without debuffs, increases the effect of Exhaustion itself. Adjacent cell "Pure chaos" Deals additional chaos damage.
The final key tree for the Monk is the Mana Trident:
- Witchcraft intensity Increases spell damage for every 100 maximum mana.
- Ether flow Reduces the regeneration rate when in one place, but increases it when moving.
- Raw Mana Increases maximum mana, but also increases mana costs for skills.

Elementalist Monk Endgame Build
The endgame build of the Elemental Monk is quite easy to play, clears locations very quickly and has no problems with defeating bosses or defending against enemy attacks. However, there may be some difficulties with the selection of equipment, in the worst case, the necessary items can always be purchased on the market from players.
Skills and stones
In the late game, most players favor a combination of elements, moving away from a hard focus on lightning. The final skill set with gems looks like this:
