The catch is that the scroll is locked in a chest, and guards are assigned to it, so Henry will have to act stealthily and learn the basics of the art of thievery.

In this guide we will tell you how to complete the Materia Prima quest in KCD 2: learn how to steal and stealthily stun, get thief clothes, sneak into the town hall without the guards noticing and take the document.

How to Start Materia Prima Quest in KCD 2

The mill is located by the river, southwest of the Semin settlement. It would be best to reunite with horse Sivka, to make it easier to get there. Once at the mill, look for the miller Kreisel, dressed in a bright yellow outfit.

Once you find the miller, select a line "I heard you can make some money here.", to which the NPC will send Indro to carry sacks of flour. If you do not deny it and agree, the quest will be activated.

As part of the mission, you will need to steal a document from the town hall in Troskovitz, which will allow you to get acquainted with the stealth mechanics in the game and learn lock picking.

Carry the sacks of flour to the cart

Simply drag a few sacks - about 5-6 - from the barn to the cart in the middle of the yard. Once you do this, a cutscene will automatically start and a second dialogue with Kreisel will begin.

In the dialogue, the miller will give Henry his first serious assignment to steal the document "Proposal of Hermes Trismegistus". Agree and ask him a few questions, which will open additional activities within the framework of the task and will allow you to better prepare for the theft:

  • "Where can I find this parchment?" - reveals a tip about the farmhand Zinek, who knows the exact location of the chest with the paper.
  • "How do I get into the town hall?" - Reveals the location of thief's clothing, which reduces noise and visibility.
  • "I want to learn how to steal" - unlocks training in robbing characters, strangling and picking locks.

Practice stealing and stunning

To start training, go to the farmhand Yenik at the mill and ask him to train:

  • "I want to try stunning" - hidden strangulation training.
  • "I want to learn how to clean out wallets" - pickpocketing training.

To begin the practice, follow Yenik to the barn. There, listen to his rather helpful instructions, respond that you are ready to begin, duck (button C), go behind him and perform one of the actions that you agreed on: stealing or strangling.

Pickpocketing works like this: go behind Yenik, hold down the Y (E on the English keyboard layout). A dial will open, which will fill up as you hold it down. The longer you hold it down, the more time you will be given to steal, it is only important to release the Y button in time. The color of the dial indicates the risk of being caught: red is a very high risk.

After releasing U and accumulating time, you will open the character's pocket menu:

  1. probe the pocket with the "F" and "B" buttons;
  2. examine the contents of your pocket (question icons) and take items by pressing "U";
  3. Complete the theft in time by returning to the door icon with the "U" key.

Choke works a little differently. Go behind Yeniku, press A (or F on the English layout) to choke. If the victim resists, sword icons will appear. At this time, you need to quickly press RMB to resist attempts to escape from the grab. When the character loses consciousness, you can put him (RMB) on the ground or drag him.

Choking does not kill the enemy, but finding the dagger opens up the stealth kill option (hold "A"). The dagger can be picked up for free in the barn where Yenik's training takes place. We do not recommend using it for this quest, as there is simply no great need for violence.

Practice picking locks

In the barn where Yenik and I honed the art of theft and strangulation, there is a training chest on which you can hone your hacking skill. Take it master keys on the left and proceed. The task of the mini-game:

  • Find with the mouse the place where the round indicator starts to glow golden.
  • Start turning the lock with the "B" button. While turning the lock with the "B" button, try to keep the indicator in the position with the mouse so that it always remains golden.

If the break-in is successful, you will find 7 more lockpicks inside. You can buy more from the miller Kreisel.

Get some thief clothes

The thief's stealth and noise suppression kit is in the chest of the bathhouse owner Dorota in the northern part of the village of Zheleev. There are two options for how to get the clothes. Let's start with the legal one:

  • Choose a replica "I heard you have Kreisel's clothes.".
  • Dorota is ready to give away the set for 199

Dorota will give you the key to the chest: go to the second floor of the bathhouse, go to the small chest, open it and take the thief's clothes. The alternative to the legal approach is obvious - stealthily go up to the 2nd floor and break into the specified chest. Castle level - easy.

Get information from Zinek

Zinek stands in chains on Troskovice Square, the same place where Indro and Jan used to be (Quest "Troski"). Approach the poor guy and get some information. The dialogue is pretty straightforward:

  • Ask "Where is Kreisel's parchment?".
  • When asked about your , choose any response.

Zinek will tell you that the item you are looking for is locked in a prison chest under the guardhouse. You can get there by walking along the fence behind the tavern. The problem is that the stairs to the prison are guarded by a guard. There is no point in asking Zinek any more questions at this point.

If you can't find Zinek on Troskovice Square, but you really want to chat with him, then most likely he has already served his sentence and returned to the Mill in Nizhniy Semin.

How to get the key to the town hall

Two simple options for where to find the key to the town hall, or more precisely, to the chest under the town hall.

  • Choke the guard guarding the guardhouse and steal the key from him (it is not necessary to kill, you can just steal it).
  • Jump down to the entrance to the guardhouse so that the guard doesn't see you, and rummage around under the prison bed in one of the cells.

It is important to get out there and do business at night, so that the shadow would further hide Henry, and the guards on prison duty would sleep:

  • Go to sleep in the tavern, get up at night.
  • Change into a thief's outfit, which reduces your Visibility, Noise, and Spotting stats.

First, jump down to the age under the guardhouse, on the side where the guard can't see.

Next, in the central underground room, choose the left chamber with a bed (if you look from the entrance where you came from). Under the bed you will find Fake Zinek Key. Return to the central underground room, unlock the chest with the key and take the desired document.

Going back the other way isn't an option, as a guard is guarding the stairs. No problem: take the opposite route up to the guards' room. Quietly them while they're sleeping, and exit through the main door into the town hall.
