How to start quest
The quest "Root of Evil" in KCD 2 can be opened when you return to the artist from Przytoki and report the mission completed "Tainted Honor". Select a replica in the dialogue: "How is the work going?" — the artist's answer will make you worry, as he is clearly not himself. Listen to the master's story about his fading mind and offer to help.
This dialogue will contain skill checks for Scholarship and Alchemy. You don't have to them, but if you have the required stats, use these phrases to gain reputation.

Find out from Vojta what ingredients are needed to prepare the medicine and go in search of them. To get the mandrake root, help the gravedigger teach the thieves a lesson, and for the river pearls, go to the forest river south of Kutna Hora.
Once you have collected everything you need, brew the potion on the alchemy table. If you get a top-quality tincture, it will unlock Trophy "Nothing is too much for art".
Get some sage
The most common of the required ingredients, often found in pastures and grassy slopes. It can be purchased in dried form from any apothecary, but for the best quality potion you will need to obtain fresh sage.
The plant can be collected in large quantities in the villagers' garden in Grunt. Get to the village and find herb garden in the courtyard of the house next to the tavern.
Pick a few purple flowers from the garden, the owners won't mind.
Obtain mandrake root
Vojta told me that the mandrake root grows near graves, and sent me to negotiate about this ingredient with the gravedigger František in the courtyard of the city church. Go to the northwest part of the city and find the monastery.
The first thing Frantisek will ask is if Henry can fight. Here you can take a very difficult melee skill check and, if the stat is high enough, gain additional reputation.
Even if you fail the test, continue to talk to the man and learn from him about the gang of grave robbers he wants to teach a lesson. After agreeing to help, wait until midnight and get into a fist fight with three beggars.
You don't have to aim to knock out all three. You can periodically switch between targets and try to hit them as many times as possible. When the enemies take enough damage from Henry and Frantisek, they will run away.
Even if you can't win and out when you wake up, talk to the gravedigger, he will thank you for your help in any case and give you the key. Go to František's house and take the mandrake root from the box in the pantry.

Get river pearls
For pearls, head to the forest river near Danmark, a small settlement south of Kutna Hora. Once you arrive in the search area, move along the body of water until you spot armed men searching for something in the water.
When you get close to the camp, wait until one of the bandits starts chasing Henry away. At this point, you can press "L Alt" and ask about the elder.
Wait for the commander and talk to him. If Vladimir does not come himself, find him in the camp. To negotiate, you will have to one of the skill checks:
- "Is it worth fighting for one pearl?" (Conviction, difficult).
- "If we don't come to an agreement, I'll give you away." (Coercion, very difficult).
- "Give me the pearl, or I'll kill you all" (Intimidation, difficult).
- "I'll buy pearls from you" (Impression, average).
In any option except the last one, you will be allowed to freely collect pearls from the river. Having chosen to buy jewelry, don't refuse the deal, because in this case the deserters will attack.
There may be a bug where even after successful negotiations, Indro will still be attacked. In this case, you will have to take the pearls by force or load the save and try again.
If the skills are pumped up to about 20, all will work except the first Persuasion. Although Coercion has the highest difficulty, in this dialogue it works even at low values.
If you decide to use force, deal with the bandits. You can find three pearls in the chest inside the camp, another one - in Vladimir's inventory. A few more can be pulled out of shells in the river. You need one for the quest, but it's better to be on the safe side in case the potion doesn't work and take more.
Make a potion from mandrake
Return to the city and find an alchemy table to prepare the potion. In Kutna Hora, a freely accessible laboratory can be found in the southeastern part, in the workshop of the gunner Prokop Eldris. Save before starting the preparation.
Go to the table and activate it to start cooking. To create the perfect potion and get the achievement "Nothing is too much for art", follow all the steps strictly following the instructions:
- Interact with the book and select the recipe "The Artist's Potion". Press "E" to prepare all ingredients.
- Pour as a base wine.
- Put it in the pot mandrake root and put it on the fire.
