At the beginning of June Romance Club - an application that produces interactive stories with role-playing game elements - came under the close attention of Roskomnadzor. The reason was that in the visual novels that the developers , there is no strict link to the development of romantic relationships depending on the gender of the character, which violates the current legislation of the Russian Federation. Previously, the company introduced certain restrictions that were active exclusively for the s of players living in Russia, which was demonstrated in the new update, released on June 19, 2024. However, this moment did not smooth out the already worsening situation.
For this reason, the istration of the Romance Club decided to limit access to the application in stores in the Russian Federation, until Roskomnadzor was forced to close the project in the country. This point is explained as follows:
“This was a gut-wrenching decision that we discussed for countless hours as it affects our readers, our team and the future of the project. Ultimately, we came to the conclusion that our company values and the very nature of stories that focus on diversity and inclusion prevented us from removing this content. Our hearts break for all our beloved Russian fans, because it was with you that the Kyrgyz Republic grew up and became a phenomenon.”
As a result:
- KR remains available to Russian s, but now the application will have to be ed through third-party routes. The developers will probably also make some efforts to give players a more “stable” ability to future updates. However, at the moment there are no official statements on this matter.
- The release of old and new stories in Russian will continue.
In addition, the company will continue, as before, to existing players from all countries playing in Russian without any restrictions.
